I instructed McKeowns in January 2026 to act on my house purchase. Throughout the transaction, communication was poor and I frequently had to chase for updates. The most disappointing part was the handling of the AML/source of funds process. I fully cooperated throughout and provided everything requested, together with further supporting evidence. What I found particularly frustrating was that the enhanced source of funds review only became a significant issue after months of acting on my behalf, when the transaction was nearing completion. By that stage, I had already incurred significant time, cost and stress. After weeks of requesting additional documentation, my retainer was terminated two days after the intended completion date because they were not satisfied with the source of funds. By that stage, my mortgage funds had already been drawn down by the solicitor and returned, meaning my mortgage application had to be withdrawn and restarted from the beginning. This caused significant delays, and the sellers even put the property back on the market because of the uncertainty. After making contact with PA Duffy & Co and discussing the circumstances of my situation, the solicitor advised that she could not see an issue with the documentation I had provided and confirmed that she was willing to take over the transaction. The purchase was completed one week after my new mortgage offer was received, and I collected my keys today. The contrast in communication, responsiveness and overall handling of the matter was remarkable. I fully appreciate that solicitors have strict anti-money laundering obligations and I am not criticising the fact that checks were carried out. My concern is how the matter was managed, the timing of the enhanced source of funds review, the prolonged delays, the lack of communication, and the decision to terminate the retainer only after months of acting for me and after the intended completion date had already passed. It was an incredibly stressful experience that nearly cost me my home purchase, and unfortunately I cannot recommend the firm based on my experience.

Excellent outcome. Although I had my doubts through the process which took years to conclude it was worth waiting. My advice is be patient and trust these people know what they are doing.
