What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Family law, conveyancing, employment matters, property work, mediation and support for older clients are the areas of practice that emerge from feedback about Crombie Wilkinson Solicitors in York. A recurring theme is the value clients place on long-standing relationships, with one account covering three decades of legal work handled in a manner described as friendly and efficient.

Individual members of staff feature prominently, including Juliette, credited with sustained effort on a case, Elspeth, thanked for smoothing a house purchase, and Catherine, noted for answering queries. More than one customer describes feeling understood when transferring their affairs from another firm, with Sharon and Anthony praised for grasping client needs and delivering on them. Politeness and helpfulness during property transactions come up often, with one reviewer recalling the process as a joy from start to finish.

Balanced against this, a number of accounts describe communication that lapsed over the course of a matter, with promised updates failing to arrive and replies proving difficult to obtain. Some reviewers raise concerns about how sensitive family situations and potential conflicts of interest were handled, and longer-running cases are described as continuing without resolution. The pattern that emerges combines strong day-to-day dealings with named staff against frustration over follow-through on family and property work.

Extremely unprofessional and distressing experience I am deeply disappointed with my experience at Crombie Wilkinson Solicitors. I attended their office to raise a serious concern regarding a potential conflict of interest, as I believed the firm had been involved on both sides of a court matter between myself and another individual. This is not a trivial issue and required sensitivity, professionalism, and respect. Instead, while I was visibly distressed and trying to explain my concerns in person (due to having no mobile phone reception), I was met with behaviour that I found humiliating and upsetting. A solicitor openly laughed, pointed at me, and appeared to find the situation amusing. This left me feeling mocked, dismissed, and completely unsupported at a time when I was already under significant emotional strain. I found the conduct entirely inappropriate for a legal practice, particularly one dealing with family and court-related matters where clients are often vulnerable. I expected empathy, discretion, and professionalism — none of which were shown during my visit. Based on my experience, I would strongly caution others to consider carefully before engaging this firm. How clients are treated when they raise concerns says a lot about a company’s values, and unfortunately mine was handled in a way I found shocking and unacceptable.

Crombie Wilkinson have handled all my legal matters for over 30 years and I have always found them to be friendly, efficient and professional. Most recently dealing with Catherine who was extra helpful and always there to answer my many queries... thank you Catherine!

Just a final £300 kick in the teeth insurance policy that wasn't required for a garage that has been there since the 60's with no problems.

The Pickering office started off fine and were incredibly helpful but went downhill. " the promise" of keeping me informed at regular intervals didn't happen. Even at the end I had to write after a couple of months to ask if if the matter had finally been finished.

Represented by Juliette, the time and effort Juliette has put into my case is outstanding and I appreciate everything she has done for me. Would highly recommend
