What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Conveyancing work forms the backbone of the feedback for this Hanley practice, with reviewers repeatedly describing house purchases and sales that were handled efficiently and without drama. Several customers single out named solicitors, among them Zoe, Sally, Anna and Helen, for keeping them informed at each stage and for moving matters along quickly. A point that comes up often is the clarity of the costs quoted: people say they were told upfront what the total would be and that the final bill matched the figure given, with no unexpected additions.

Beyond property transactions, the firm is described as dealing with divorce and financial matters, wills, powers of attorney and probate, and reviewers speak warmly of the advice given in those areas, including lengthy divorce proceedings that involved court appearances. Clients note that explanations were plain and that options and possible outcomes were set out before decisions were taken. The tone of the comments is consistently appreciative of the professionalism shown, with kindness, patience and a willingness to answer questions mentioned across different types of case. Wills, probate and family matters feature alongside residential conveyancing in these accounts.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with this conveyancing firm has been extremely disappointing. I purchased my property through them in 2017 (then called Tinsdills), and a significant issue relating to access was not brought to my attention at the time. This has since caused serious problems for me in 2023 and has materially affected the value and usability of the property. Hoping for clarity, I returned to the same firm for advice in 2023 and paid £240 for an initial consultation (one hour). Unfortunately, the meeting was not helpful. I was repeatedly told to “do your own research,” and I did not leave with any clear guidance or confidence that there was a structured plan to address the issue. After discussing the situation further with friends, it became apparent that this was something that should have been identified and explained during the original conveyancing process. When I raised this point with the firm, communication effectively broke down. Despite assurances that the solicitor would return my calls, I received no follow-up. I also attempted to go through the formal complaints process, which is a complete farce. Overall, this experience has left me in a very difficult position with a property that is now significantly affected by an issue I believe should have been highlighted from the outset. I would strongly encourage others to ensure all potential legal and access matters are thoroughly explored and clearly explained before proceeding with a purchase.

Really disappointed after being recommended by another solicitors, I made contact, gave an overview of my distressing situation and was told I’d receive a call back. Heard nothing and taken my business elsewhere. Alison

After Tinsdills was taken over by Talbots, service has unfortunately gone downhill. I instructed a solicitor here to purchase a property, and heard nothing from them apart from them taking my information initially and to ask when I would pay their fee, despite them doing no work and refusing to respond to my emails or answer my calls. My emails to the solicitor went unanswered and calls went to a call centre that suggested I 'speak to my solicitor', which of course came to nothing since the solicitor apparently didn't want to communicate with me. Highly disappointing and would not recommend as a solicitor, at least for property law. Incredibly poor communication.

Zero stars. Bright future says the website info! ? My family have been clients of Tinsdills for over 40 years. Since the change of ownership things appear to have slid off a cliff! We are in the process of a legal matter and after attempted phone contacts over the last 4 weeks, nothing. The solicitor concerned said she'd phone me "today" twice after at least 3 further attempts to chase up. We have left a verbal complaint sitting with the receptionist today, requiring a phone contact by 12 noon today. Should that not occur, we are transferring our custom elsewhere to a more honourable firm. Update: No surprise, no phone call, you've just lost this and future business. A highly unprofessional firm

After submitting our conveyancing quote request, the lady who contacted us stated that they only work with buyers possessing a UK passport or driving licence, without offering an explanation. This policy seems discriminatory, especially considering the millions of expats in the UK who lack these documents. Fortunately, numerous solicitors are willing to assist expats, ensuring fair access to legal services.
