How much does Solicitors & law firms cost in Southampton? (2026 price guide)

General solicitor fees typically range from £150-£350 per hour depending on seniority and specialism, with straightforward matters such as drafting a simple will usually costing £150-£400 as a fixed fee. More involved legal work, such as drafting commercial contracts or handling a dispute, often runs into several thousand pounds depending on complexity and time involved.

Costs are driven mainly by the solicitor's experience and seniority, whether the firm charges hourly or offers a fixed fee for defined work, the complexity and urgency of the matter, and firm size, with larger firms typically charging more than high street practices. Legal aid may reduce costs for certain matters where eligibility criteria are met.

Asking whether a fixed fee is available for straightforward matters, rather than an open-ended hourly rate, usually gives more cost certainty before committing to legal work.
